Termites: Alabama Has Worst Bugs in Nation

Termite Damage

The termite problem in Mobile and surrounding areas is bad. I mean BAD. But did you know we now have the worst termites in the nation?

Subterranean termites have the “worst of the worst” distinction because they are almost undetectable. They can build an entire colony that is not visible on the outside; then, they burrow underground and into your house. Once in the wood, they can eat for years. Yes, years.

This clandestine activity is why you hear of people driving in a nail and seeing their entire wall collapse. These bugs never showed themselves and never made a sound.

If you have a termite protection program, this should never happen. If it does, call an attorney fast.

Here are some signs of subterranean termites:

Soil Tubes – These are the tunnels made by worker termites. They come up from the ground and into your house. Check under your deck or porch, check the crawl space, and in fact, check any dark area around your home.

Wood Taps – You may be able to detect where the termites have hollowed out your walls and floor. Knock on the wood, and if the lumber sounds hollow, you may have a problem.

Bug Activity – Swarms do happen. Look for tiny black insects with long white wings that stack on top of each other. Also, look for small white insects that look like ants. Either of these can indicate a colony.
