When Tragedy Destroys Your World

After a serious accident, you can never go back to before.

For my legal clients, some will never celebrate a Christmas the same way or drive past a specific intersection without feeling sadness, fear, and perhaps regret – all because of a horrifying accident. If I could prevent that for them, I would. What I can do is encourage you to take accident prevention seriously.

This is especially poignant to me as I read about the first anniversary of the tragic boat dock fire in Northeast Alabama. Eight people were killed, 35 boats destroyed, and half a million dollars of property damaged. It is one of the worst maritime disasters in Alabama history.

The story, which you can read here, tells about how the fire changed so many people’s lives.

I point this out because I hope you will spend some time, especially since so many of us in Mobile are staying inside, to look around your home for those things that could easily cause an accident or fire. If you are fortunate enough to have a boat, check that out too.

If you only look for one thing, focus on preventing fire. Fire is very unforgiving. It spreads faster than you think, destroys almost everything in its path, and can leave scars that will not heal.

I tell my clients that I cannot really get them back to where they were before the accident. All I can do is get them the money they need to rebuild their lives. I have never had one yet who would not give up all the money to have their old lives back.

Be safe. Not just for you but your family as well.

If you suffer a personal injury like an auto accident or slip and fall, you can talk to us at the Law Firm of Eiland and Ritchie for free. We want to help you get back on your feet. We are mostly working remotely but are always available.

Also, join us on NBC 15 LawCall here in Mobile every Sunday night at 10:30, right after the news. We will take your calls live. We are experimenting with new ways to do the show and still follow the CDC guidelines. You might want to see what we have come up with.
