Have you ever bought a shirt and said, “Here is an extra $20; the shirt is worth it!” Well, no. And insurance companies (who pay out money for most traffic accident and other injuries) feel the same. They are going to pay the minimum.
Now, the shocking part: some injured people want to help them pay less.
Here are statements that real clients have made and how it can cost them.
I don’t want to go to court.
The chance you will go to court is slim. I mean really slim. I mean almost impossibly slim. The reason is not you; it is the insurance company. Here is why actually going to court is bad for the insurance company. First, there is the expense of going to trial. Then, the judge or jury could find that the insurance company owes a lot more than it was expecting. Multi-million dollar judgments happen. It is that fact that makes insurance companies offer reasonable amounts up front. Take that away and they will offer less.
I don’t want anyone to know I am suing.
You have to file a lawsuit if you are going to show you are serious in pursuing your claim. It also prevents the clock from running out on your case. Now, a filing is public, but have you ever known anyone to go to the courthouse and look at the court filings? Mostly your business is private unless you choose to share it. But I tell you –there is no greed in trying to get the money you deserve for the pain and property damage you suffered.
I want my money super-fast.
If you do, this means you are getting substantially less than you could. Any lawyer can get you a check quickly … but it means you are accepting pennies on the dollars you deserve.
My legal advice: let the legal system work. It may take a little time, but you will greatly benefit in the end.
